Cat Food Nutrition

Proper cat food nutrition is essential for the health of cats. It does not matter which food you give your cat canned (wet) food, dry food or cook it yourself, but it is important to ensure that the food is nutritious, healthy and suitable for your cat’s age.

Cat food for cats is different from food for adult cats, just like humans. They need a diet to promote healthy growth.

Proteins (in the form of meat, poultry, fish or eggs) are an important part of the diet and can keep your cat healthy.

Many (but maybe not all) canned foods labeled with chicken, meat, or fish should be carefully monitored for the percentage and composition of this ingredient. Some pet food manufacturers have been found to include broken bones, chicken jaws and internal organs (such as intestines, lungs, brain, etc.) as part of the total percentage of specific ingredients.

With canned cat food, you also have to pay for water (a staggering amount of the total) and grain to distribute the actual food. In general, the cheaper the food, the worse the quality you will get. If you’re not cooking cat food yourself, it’s really worth spending a little more to see if your cat is getting the right nutrition. It flattens itself because your cat needs to eat less of the more expensive cat food to stay healthy. There are many single serve packets on the market right now and I like them better than canned packets. They are cheaper and one pack can feed my two cats every night. They also hold more food in each pack and are certainly kinder to handle and bury.

Cat food needs just as much food as humans. Can you imagine feeding pork chops, mashed potatoes and peas seven days a week, fifty-two weeks a year? You will get tired of it after the first week. Your cat is the same. Switch places, eat dry foods (cookies, etc.) two or three times a week, and eat a variety of cans or small packages for the rest of the week. Unless your cat is on a strict diet, you should always have dry food (and plenty of fresh water) for your cat to graze. Unlike dogs, cats only eat what they need at the time. Many dry cat foods are also high in carbohydrates, and cats don’t need too many carbohydrates. Why not buy some frozen pet food every once in a while and cook it? If your cat has special needs such as diabetes, see your vet for special cat food.

Remember, just like you, cats need a healthy and nutritious diet. Feeding him high-protein food will not only save you money on your vet’s bill, but will also help extend your cat’s lifespan. Good cat food nutrition makes sense.
